Museum of Science - Big Dig Exhibit

Maryanne Cataldo, President, City Lights Electrical Co., Inc., is proud to become a Corporate Supporter of the Museum of Science’s Upgrade of the Big Dig Project.

Gene Dubrow, Manager of Corporate and Foundation Development at the Museum of Science states: "Since September 1993 the Museum of Science has presented to millions of visitors an exhibition on the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel Project. Utilizing vivid simulations, recreations and hands-on activities, the objectives of the Big Dig exhibit are to capture the complexity of this undertaking and help students and adults understand one of the most important projects in New England’s history and the profound ways in which science and engineering impact our lives.

The Museum’s Big Dig exhibit helps the public to understand the massive changes taking place in our urban landscape and the improvements to our transportation system and quality of life that will result from the Central Artery Project. It also gives us a wonderful opportunity to educate the public about the revolution in technology. In fact, we believe the exhibit is influencing young people to choose studies and careers in science and engineering."

Some of the exhibits and graphics explain the innovative construction techniques employed at a variety of sites, including:

• Ted Williams tunnel construction
• Tunnel jacking at South Station
• Leverett Circle connector – steel box girder bridge
• Tunnel ventilation
• Fort Point Chunnel
• Slurry cut and cover construction for artery
