City Lights Electrical's expertise extends
into the cutting-edge field of telecommunications. Boston's
Central Artery Tunnel Project provides an excellent example
of their capabilities in this area. Using a wide array of
Intelligent Traffic Management System devices, the Operations
Command Center run by the Massachusetts Highway Department
will monitor traffic in tunnels, on ramps, and in downtown
Boston on Interstates 90 and 93. This fail-safe "smart"
highway will use more than 35,000 data collection points to
manage traffic incidents, fire detection and response, security,
ventilation, lighting, and air quality.
Work on this project included the installation
of loop detectors embedded in the roadway, closed circuit
color video cameras that are capable of zooming and panning
in any direction, electronic signs and lane control signals,
variable speed limit signs to optimize traffic flow and safety,
and more. Additionally, a back-up Operations Command Center
was constructed in one of the Central Artery's new vent buildings.
